Misirlou

"Misirlou" (The Egyptian Girl") is a Greek song, copyrighted by P. Roubanis in 1934 but certainly older.  It's best known in the West these days as the theme for the movie "Pulp Fiction" - the version used there is the wonderful Californian surf-rock arrangement by Dick Dale and the Deltones.

The scale it it uses is known as "zirguleli hijaz" in Turkish and "mayamalavagaula" or "bhairavi" in Indian music - centred on E as here, the F and C are natural but the G and D are sharpened.  This scale was known in ancient Greece, but in this song, it came via the Ottoman Empire.

The Hunt

This is an Irish tune used for a hornpipe-like set dance.  It's normally played in G.  This covers the whole range of a 10-hole C ocarina, so use one in D if you want to play with (most) other people.
